Description

On the 6th January 2025 the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) awarded a contract for the delivery of a Green Urban Growth (GUG) programme in Somalia to DT Global International Development UK LTD. The Contract is due to run until 31 July 2030 to the value of up to £25,000,000. The Contract has an extension option of 24 months and allows for an increase in value of up to an additional £25,000,000, which may include funding from other donors to support collaboration and partnerships on urban development. The Green Urban Growth (GUG) programme aims to support Somalia cities become more inclusive and resilient to cope with rapid urbanisation and climate change and be able to harness green growth opportunities that contribute to poverty reduction and build longer-term resilience for Somalia's Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and the urban poor. The programme objective is to unblock access to climate resilient basic services and create green economic opportunities in Somalia through: - resilient urban planning that minimises conflict, increases climate resilience and supports integration of IDPs; - developing a pipeline of climate-resilient infrastructure projects with the potential to effect systemic change and encourage growth; and - mobilising finance (including climate finance) for sustainable, inclusive and climate resilient infrastructure that encourages green growth.
