The Council is procuring a contract to undertake the reconstruction of a section of retaining wall at Lancaster Street, Carlisle. O.S. grid Co-ordinates 340443E; 555372N. The works require a section of retaining wall approximately 27m in length and 1.5m in height of retaining wall to be taken down and reconstructed/ realigned as indicated on drawing Dwg-01-Lancaster Street RW. The existing stone is to be set aside for re-use and where replacement stone is required it must match the surrounding masonry as closely as possible. The existing parapet railings are to be refurbished and reinstalled. The perforated drainage pipe behind the retaining wall is to be connected to the existing gully. The cobbled surface on Lancaster Street is to be reinstated to existing levels. Cumberland Council have arranged a GPR survey to be undertaken to accurately locate services and the report will be shared with the contractor. A road closure permit for Lancaster Street and Crown Street to complete the works has been obtained by Cumberland Council. The closure commences on Monday 10th March 2025 for a duration of up to 6 weeks concluding Thursday 17th April 2025. A key objective is to limit disruption to local residents, businesses and members of the public during the works, any road closures should be kept to a minimum. The Contractor shall also be responsible for procuring and managing all traffic management, which is to be agreed upon with the Employer's Highway Network Manager.
