        "description": "The Cleft Registry and Audit Network (CRANE) Database collects information on all children born with a cleft lip and / or palate (including those with non-cleft velo-pharyngeal insufficiency) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.\u003cbr/\u003e\u003cbr/\u003eThe CRANE Database has two aims:\u003cbr/\u003e\u2022 To register birth, demographic and epidemiological data related to all children born in England, Wales and Northern Ireland with the congenital abnormality of clefting of the lip and / or palate.\u003cbr/\u003e\u2022 To record the treatment of children and adults with clefts of the lip and / or palate and the outcome of such treatment. This data will provide the basis for the national audit of cleft care.\u003cbr/\u003e\u003cbr/\u003eIn line with these broad aims, the CRANE Database has the following objectives:\u003cbr/\u003e\u2022 To provide an up-to-date register of all cleft patients.\u003cbr/\u003e\u2022 To monitor frequency and incidence of clefting.\u003cbr/\u003e\u2022 To audit and report on quality of care for patients with clefts and thus promoting high standards in clinical management.\u003cbr/\u003e\u2022 To trial and introduce (with CDG oversight and consent) an outlier policy for the registration and audit outcome reporting functions of CRANE.\u003cbr/\u003e\u2022 To support research and focused quality improvement studies.\u003cbr/\u003e\u2022 To work with and receive advice from the Craniofacial Society and its members to improve the delivery of cleft care.\u003cbr/\u003e\u2022 To send data to NHS England SSQD for Quality Dashboard production on Quarterly basis.\u003cbr/\u003eIn addition, the CRANE Database endeavors to strengthen its links with other congenital abnormalities and cleft registries and databases in other countries.",
